Train: From the Studio vs Live

  • Train makes great music. Hip, edgy and hard driving.

I’ve written before about the dangers of trying to imitate singers you hear in a music video or on the radio. In this post you’ll watch the official music video for ‘Hey Soul Sister’ and an acoustic version – no hocus-pocus of the recording studio. After watching the second video, see my comments to get a better understanding of the differences.

    Now here’s the acoustic version:

Listen to how much thinner his voice is now. It’s not the same great big fat sound as in the video. He’s really straining for the high notes and at about 1:28 in the video, his straining to hit the notes begins to pull him out of tune. A little further into the video you can see that he’s getting tired – and he hasn’t even finish ONE SONG!

Still, Train makes great music – with the right team to promote him, create the image and advertise it, produce great video and audio. Dig the music for what it is: a masterful team of musicians, writers, producers, PR folks, and on and on.

Don’t try to imitate Train – be the best and most unique you that you can be! Get a free video lesson on the homepage here at SingLikeYouSpeak.com.
