Singing In Tune

  • Yesterday I was having a conversation with a student about pitch, about singing in tune. We were working on a SingLikeYouSpeak™ technique that promotes several things:
    Singing in Tune
    Singing with Meaning
    Connection to the Audience
Never have to worry about Pitch Again

My student admitted that she doesn’t really go for the pitch and let her voice sound on the pitch – just in case it’s wrong! You may laugh at that, but it’s a common problem to one degree or another.

Problem is if you don’t explore and experiment with singing boldly on the pitch, then you’ll never know how to do it! Practice is about making mistakes and observing what went wrong and then figuring out another possible approach.

Try filling the pitch with the vowel – I mean really fill it up. Develop a relationship to pitch that does not involve fear. We all have fear about being out of tune, unfortunately that’s the way it is usually. Feel the fear and try it anyway. What can it hurt? Nothing!

Take a look at your ideas about pitch. Do you shy away from the pitch because you might be wrong? If that is what you do, make a change. Dare to put it out there. Make sure you are not pushing or straining. That’s always death to good pitch.

Good luck. If you’d like some more help with your singing, check out my website, SingLikeYouSpeak.com
