Sing Like You Speak Not Loud and Obnoxious
-
On the last SingersKeyNotes.com webinar we were discussing how to reach your audience. How do you make the communication clear without being loud and obnoxious?

Consonants. That’s the answer. Using your consonants to make your words very clear. Some singers say, ‘no way!’ to clear diction because they think it will make them sound affected or classical or uncool.
Let me tell you what is really uncool – mumbling! As a singer, you have something to say, something that needs to be said, to be communicated to your audience. Making your lyrics easily understandable and for your audience is a gift that they will love you for.
Use your consonants for forward release of breath and sound.
Try for crisp, clear consonants on every word.
See what happens when you use your consonants to emphasize rhythm.
Use ending consonants to end your phrases.
Notice how you your emotions become stronger when you use your words precisely.Think about a good rapper – Jay Z. His diction is very clear – has to be or there’s no rhythm in the rap! And he is very cool.
There are other benefits to training to use your consonants effectively with Sing Like You Speak™. When we were having this discussion on the webinar, a woman in England who is a student on SingLikeYouSpeak.com said that her voice training to use her consonants has had a heart-warming benefit.
This SingLikeYouSpeak.com student’s partner has hearing loss. As a result of her training, her partner can now hear her and understand her. How cool is that?!
It warms my heart to know that my life’s work has such practical and far-reaching benefits. Please join us on the next webinar, SingersKeyNotes.com. Want more info about vocal training? Visit SingLikeYouSpeak.com. Want even more? Ask about private lessons with Sally Morgan.
