An Unsuspecting Star is Born
-
When a star is born, the star is sometimes the last person to know that they have star potential. This is the truth with my student Helga.
Helga and I, Sally Morgan, have worked together for about 1.5 years, through vocal damage, through the writing of some of her songs, through the recording of her CD in Nashville, then preparing her for the CD release party. I adore Helga as a human being and love her songwriting. That doesn’t mean that she will be great on stage in front of an audience. But she is!

Helga has been singing and writing music since she was 12 years old. Now, as a woman with a grown son, Helga is finding her grounding as a performer. At her CD release party last weekend, Helga took the stage and held a standing room only audience rapt for an hour and 45 minutes without breaking a sweat. She was in her element.
When I was congratulating Helga after her performance, telling her how truly wonderful she was on that stage, she was genuinely surprised. She had had a great time performing, but I don’t believe she realized just how strong a performer she is. And because she does it so naturally, without having to force anything, she dismissed her performance ability.
Will the world know the name Helga? Probably not. In the minds and hearts of everyone who saw her perform at her CD release party, she is a star. The best kind of star. Genuine – doing what she loves to do and inspiring others.
Please visit Helga.us.com and check out her music – it always makes me smile and reminds me of the faith of my childhood.
